Are you aware of your thinking preferences?

Get new insights on how your own brain thinks!

Something natural happens over time within each of us - the brain falls into comfortable ways of thinking. Distinct preferences emerge. The brain carves its own path choosing to use some patterns more often than others. While this is natural it may start to limit you in ways subtler and more significant than you realize. Rational thinkers lose touch with emotion. Emotional thinkers can’t seem to organize thoughts. Or instinct tells us there is much more power inside but we have trouble connecting.

You can learn how your brain thinks. The NBI assessment charts your thinking preferences. This awareness can help you improve your communication, relationships, creativity and your whole life! The way you think shapes your reality!

Each of us has a distinct preferred way of thinking, partly due to genetic tendencies and mostly because of our conditioning. And our preferred way of thinking often skips over areas where we would be better of if we were using them. How many times have we realized that we haven’t been using our full potential?

The assessment starts with a simple, straightforward set of questions that you complete online at a secure site. You’ll spend twenty five minutes, maybe less. It is an assessment, not a test. There are no right or wrong answers. It is a carefully constructed measurement of how your brain operates. Within minutes the instrument will chart out how your brain thinks and show it to you. You will receive an email where you can download a PDF document of your assessment, or if you prefer you can also view it online.

This assessment has been validated and also correlated with the MBTI® (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator). This powerful assessment was developed by Dr. Kobus Neethling and it is licensed by WholeBrain Creativity (WBC). Conscious Path, LLC is one of the very few authorized distributors of the instrument.

The Science

Here is a sample of Bob’s profile. It indicates that Bob is very comfortable with factual, logical, ratio
nal and critical thinking. His profile indicates a high score at Quadrant L1.

Bob prefers an environment governed by clear guidelines and expectations, working with factual, technical or scientific data. He is very likely to be precise and accurate in his approach, strongly focusing on the task at hand. Objective and factual, Bob is highly analytical and allows little scope for feelings or emotions. He has a strong preference for dealing with concrete information such as quantitative measurements and financial data, and could get frustrated if he does not have all the facts. Realism is very important to him, but he is likely to be critical of anything that does not comply with the high standards that he sets. Bob is performance driven and can sometimes be authoritarian, using external discipline to achieve the desired result.

Bob is comfortable with analytical problem solving, data analysis, statistics, budgets and logical thinking processes.

Now, look at his lowest score at Quadrant R1, which indicates an average preference. Bob prefers that these processes be used in support of his dominant quadrant. Bob is comfortable in situations that require processes such as the search for alternatives, integration, risk and strategy. He will see the big picture and will integrate new ideas with his existing frame of reference. Bob is comfortable with change and innovation. He may be able to put ideas and information together and come up with something new.

Your profile contains a seven page PDF document with your charted brain thinking preferences along with an interpretation of the results. And, as a bonus, you get a free download of the ebook “Understanding your Whole Brain”.

Everything you need to understand your brain thinking patterns can be found in these two documents. Then you can create your own strategies to put your brain to good use!

The good news is that thinking patterns can be changed. You will be able to look at your own thinking patterns to get new insights on how to build better relationships, become a better parent or spouse and establish yourself as a leader, for example. Creative thinking becomes more powerful and present in your life when you use your whole brain!

As far back as 400 BC, Hippocrates, while examining the brain during autopsies, realized that that the loss of speech was connected with damage to the left side of the brain.  He concluded:  “The brain of man is double.”

In 1864, Paul Broca, a French surgeon, arrived at the same conclusion, after observing that patients with aphasia (loss of speech) had damage to the left-brain.

In the 1960’s, Philip Vogel and Joseph Bogen performed their breakthrough, split-brain surgery on three epileptic patients. Roger Sperry (who received a Nobel Prize for this work in 1981) and his colleagues Bogen, Vogel and Gazziniga, tested these patients. They discovered that the two hemispheres of the brain control vastly different aspects of thought and action. They found the left hemisphere (controlling the right side of the body) is dominant for language, speech and analytical and logical thought. The right hemisphere (controlling the left side of the body) excels at visualizing, holistic and unstructured tasks. This breakthrough was followed by brain dominance research by Ned Herrmann, Jaquelyn Wonder, Priscilla Donovan, Beverly Moore and others.

The NBI was developed after extensive, international research after 1980 on left/right brain functions, leading to the quadrant NBI profile.  Kobus Neethling, under the research guidance of Professor Paul Torrance of the University of Georgia, first developed the NBI for adults, before applying similar methodologies to develop a number of other whole brain instruments. The most recent development has been the introduction of the 8-dimensions, providing even more insight into thinking preferences and applications at work and at home.

The results of research on the NBI have been very significant, and ongoing research at a number of universities and institutes remains an essential part of whole brain science.
